Comments:
My first BBS was a dialup BBS known as Mini-Net BBS, which ran on a Radio Shack Model 100 laptop,
along with a 1200 baud modem.
For my birthday in 1992, I got an 8088 XT computer from one of his friends that was working at Arkansas
Childrens Hospital in Little Rock (they were discarding old computers). The computer had 640K of RAM,
DOS 3.2 and a 20
gigabyte hard drive. The Thunderbolt BBS officially went online on stardate 199201.5,
running GT Power software...which I ran for 13 years.
During this time, and up to the present, the BBS has
undergone repairs and upgrades, and required downtimes (some lengthy). To add telnet access, I switched
to Synchronet BBS software in 2005.
After my first officer (and wife of nearly 4 years) died on stardate 200727.4, I decided to continue the BBS
in her memory...although it was down for
a brief time for mourning, and to get the affairs of her estate
settled. She was a big Star Trek fan...sadly, she didn't live to see the switchover to
Virtual Advanced BBS
software on stardate 200712.1 -- which was obtained with the help of Captain Timothy Cornett, and
several others...and the BBS remains with this software to this day.
